Welcome to the Microbial Evolution and Ecology laboratory at Haverford College!
We are interested in the diversity of microbes; how this diversity has evolved; and how interactions between microbes and environments (both biotic and abiotic) influence microbial evolution. We study a range of organisms but focus on the bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae and S. mutans; the bacteriophage T4; and the microbiome of Arabidopsis thaliana. We use a wide array of research techniques, including classic microbiology laboratory skills, experimental evolution, bioinformatics, and student-developed novel protocols.
We are led by Assistant Professor Eric Miller.
