• Two PCR assays were developed to detect Taenia solium in pigs. The targeted genes were TBR (large subunit rRNA) and Cox1. Cox1 was 10 times more sensitive. Selectivity was not measured. Results were read on an agarose gel.

• LAMP was used for differential detection of three Taenia species. Two target genes, cox1 and clp, were chosen for the assays. Both were successful for sensitive and specific detection. Clp misidentified 2 species though whereas cox1 had 100% accuracy. Results were read on an agarose gel and by visual inspection for turbidity.
