Medical Waste

• Move filled, small red biohazard bags in the wire containers on lab benches into the large biohazard bags in the containers on the floor.
• Prepare filled medical waste for autoclaving by Nicole by gently bunching up the two red biohazard bags in each large container (gently so that steam from the autoclave can enter them), then heavily spraying the outside of the container with ethanol. Wipe with a paper towel.
• Place a small piece of autoclave tape on the container lid, and label container with lab initials (MEE). Move to the to-be-autoclaved area.
• Start new containers (by double bagging with red biohazard bags) when containers are returned by Nicole. Extra small and large biohazard bags are found in the third drawer beneath the small water bath, next to the sink.
